Anna-Maria Niżankowska-Horodecka, LL.D. – partner

A graduate of legal studies in the Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland (passed her master’s exam in 1999 with a very good grade). During the studies, as a holder of the Sasakawa Foundation grant, she held her research internships in the Chair of Marine Law of the University of Southampton and in the Trade Law Chair in the University of Montpellier. She pursued her postgraduate studies in the field of copyright law in the Institute of the Intellectual Property Law in Cracow, under the supervision of Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz, and in 2005, she was awarded the title of Doctor of Laws. In the same year, she passed a bar examination, obtaining an excellent grade (the first one in the post-war history of the District Bar Council in Cracow).
Since 2007, she has been a member of the Commission of Training Attorney's Trainees of the District Bar Council in Cracow.
Since 2008, she has been a member of the program committee of The Observatory of Media Freedom in Poland within the scope of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights activity.
During her studies and attorney’s training, she co-operated with the law firm of Kubas, Kos, Gaertner – Adwokaci, where she was mainly responsible for providing legal assistance for corporate clients (her tasks and responsibilities included providing day-to-day legal services for Deutsche Bank PBC S.A. as part of the legal help desk), and for representing Clients in civil and commercial proceedings.
Since January 2008, she has been a partner in Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni Law Firm.
Additionally, since 2008 she has been lecturing at the Post-Graduate School of Copyright, Publishing and Press Law at the Intellectual Property Law Institute of the Jagiellonian University.
Her main fields are civil law (substantive and procedural), intellectual property law and in commercial law.

Katarzyna Szumielewicz – partner

A graduate of legal studies in the Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland (passed her master's exam in 1997, obtaining a very good grade). She took her bar examination in 2003 (with a very good grade – the second rank of the year). During her attorney’s training, and subsequently as an independent attorney, she co-operated with the law firm of Kubas, Kos, Gaertner – Adwokaci, where she co-managed the work of a banking law team (in 2003-2005, she assisted BRE Bank Hipoteczny S.A. with credit agreements concerning real property investments and in 2006-2007 – Deutche Bank PBC S.A. as part of legal help desk). She was also responsible for providing day-to-day services for Makro Cash and Carry Polska, Hall in Cracow.
Since January 2008, she has been a partner in Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni Law Firm.
Her main fields are real property transactions, investments, as well as legal aspects of returning expropriated real properties.

Sergiusz Szuster, LL.D. – partner

A graduate of legal studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (passed his master’s exam in 2003 with a very good grade, award at the Stefan Ritterman Competition for the Best Master Thesis in academic year 2002/2003). As holder of the Sasakawa Foundation Grant (twice), he studied and held his research internship at the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg, the Free University of Brussels and the Vienna University. A graduate of the German Law School at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University (third place in 2000). In 2010, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws (specialization: administrative law), after defending the dissertation in the field of judicial review under supervision of Prof. Jan Zimmermann.
Since 2002 collaborator of the Polish-German Center of Banking Law and the Center for Foreign Law Programs at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University, responsible a.o. for coordination of the Polish Business Law School and the LL.M.-Program on Polish Business Law for Foreign Lawyers (in German language).
He gained practical experience a.o. in the legal department of InfraServ GmbH & Co. Höchst KG, Frankfurt upon Main, law firm "Eckert, Klette & Kollegen", Heidelberg, law firm "Linklaters", Frankfurt upon Main and in the law firm "J. Stelmach, A. Dziewałtowski-Gintowt, A. Kłos, J. Sikora", Kraków.
Since 2006 licensed real estate broker

Since May 2015, he has been a partner in "Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni" Law Firm.
His main fields are: administrative law (substantive and procedural), public business law, real estate law, legal aspects of retrieval nationalized enterprises and expropriated real estates.

Olga Bobrzyńska – legal counsel

A graduate of legal studies in the Jagiellonian University (passed her master's exam in 2006, with a very good grade). In 2006, she also graduated from the School of French Law, and a year later, she obtained the title of Master en droit prive awarded by the Department of Law of the University in Orlean. Currently, she is pursuing her doctorate studies in the Chair of International Private Law of the Jagiellonian University, under the supervision of Prof. Andrzej Mączyński.
During her studies, she held practical training and internships including those founded by the Hague Academy of International Law (the Netherlands), University in Reims Champagne-Ardenne, Department of Law and Political Science (France), as well as in Cracow courts and offices.
Since 2011 legal counsel.
She has been cooperating with Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni Law Firm since January 2008. Earlier she gained experience by working for the Municipal Office in Skawina and others.
Her professional interests are focused on civil law and international private law.

Joanna Fiedor – attorney's trainee

A graduate of legal studies at the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow Academy (passed her master’s exam in 2013 with a very good grade). She gained her MA degree after defending a master’s thesis under the supervision of Prof. Barbara de Ankerburg-Wagner, PhD on the influence of employer’s bankruptcy on employment relationships.
During studies, her interests revolved around civil and labour law. In 2012-2013 she was a member of the labour law and social insurance section at the Student Legal Advisory Service of the Faculty of Law, Administration and International Relations of the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow Academy. In 2013, she started her advocate training programme. She has been cooperating with Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni Law Firm since October 2013.
Her professional interests focus on civil law (substantive and process law, including family law) and labour law.

Grzegorz Maro – trainee legal counsel

A graduate of legal studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (master’s exam in 2015). He has obtained his master’s degree in law with top grades, defending the dissertation entitled “Liability for tax obligations of third parties in Polish law”, which was prepared under the supervision of Professor Adam Nita of the Tax Law Institute of the Jagiellonian University.
During his studies, he was mainly interested in tax and company law. He is the two-time holder of the Jagiellonian University Rector’s scholarship for the best students. He gained practical experience by completing internships in the courts, at law firms and at tax companies.
In 2015 he started his legal counsel training programme at the District Chamber of Legal Counsels in Krakow, achieving the fifth highest result in the entrance exam.
In 2017 he graduated from the Austrian Law School at the Jagiellonian University as the best student of the year.
He has been cooperating with Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni Law Firm since October 2015. His professional interests are focused on tax law, company law, and civil law (substantive and procedural).

Anna Paradowska-Piech – attorney

A graduate of the Department of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University – she has obtained her master’s in laws title in 2008, defending a master's thesis prepared under the supervision of Prof. Bogumił Brzeziński, entitled “Taxation of natural persons on disposal and execution of rights from brokerage financial instruments”, obtaining a very good grade. A year before that, she completed the School of French Law.
During her studies, she held practical training in Cracow courts.
Since 2013 attorney.
She has been co-operating with the Law Firm Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni since January 2008.
Her main fields are civil law (substantive and procedural), commercial law and tax law.

Magdalena Podskalna – attorney

Magdalena Podskalna has an MA degree in law from the Jagiellonian University (where she passed her MA diploma examination in 2011 with the overall mark of very good). She was conferred the master’s degree after defending her master’s thesis on the institution of executor, written under the supervision of Professor Bogusław Gawlik.
In 2004, she also completed a postgraduate course at the Faculty of European Law, Jagiellonian University, where the subject of her diploma thesis, written under the supervision of Barbara Iwańska, PhD, was environment protection in Community law, focusing on the Natura 2000 network of protected areas.
While at university, she completed work experience placements at Kraków based courts of law and at the Local-Government Appeal Board in Kraków.
She has been working with Niżankowska, Szumielewicz - Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni Law Firm, since February 2012.
Her professional interests focus around (substantive and procedural) civil law and administrative law.

Natalia Poniedziałek – legal counsel

A graduate of legal studies in the Jagiellonian University (passed her master's exam in 2010 with a very good grade). She has obtained her master’s degree in law defending a master’s dissertation prepared under the supervision of professor Michał du Vall, entitled “Prohibition of agreements restricting competition. The possibility of benefiting from exemptions from the prohibition by hard core restrictions.”
During her studies, she was mainly interested in intellectual property law. In 2008 she became a laureate of a copyright law contest organized by the Association of Law Libraries Audience of Jagiellonian University; in the academic year 2008/2009 she participated in the IP Student Program consisting of series of workshops on intellectual property law and competition law.
Since 2014 legal counsel (passed her legal counsel exam with one of the two highest results in Legal Counsel Bar in Cracow). In 2015 she completed with a very good grade a postgraduate course in the field of Intellectual Property Law in the Institute of the Intellectual Property Law in the Jagiellonian University.
She has been with the “Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci I Radcowie Prawni” Law Firm since November 2010. Her professional interests are focused on civil law (substantive and procedural) and intellectual property law.

Magdalena Ukowska – trainee legal counsel

A graduate of legal studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (passed her master's exam in 2016 with a very good grade). She has obtained her master’s degree in law, defending her master’s dissertation entitled “Arbitration Agreement in International Private Law” prepared under the supervision of professor Andrzej Mączyński. She is the two-time holder of the Jagiellonian University Rector’s scholarship for the best students. As a holder of the German Academic Exchange Service grant (DAAD), she participated in a language course in Berlin. In 2015 she graduated from the German Law School as the third-best student of the year. She also completed a course in Legal German with a very good grade. During her studies, she participated in internships in the courts in Krakow, at law firms – both in Poland and in Germany (at TIGGES in Düsseldorf) and at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vienna.
Her professional interests are focused on private international law, company law and intellectual property law.
In 2016 she passed an admission exam for trainee legal counsels.
In 2017 she graduated from the Austrian Law School at the Jagiellonian University obtaining a very good grade.
She has been cooperating with Niżankowska, Szumielewicz – Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni Law Firm since October 2016.
